Members Rallying in Support of National Bargaining

Our six bargaining teams are heading back to the table, and we need your support! One of the best ways you can show solidarity and help hold management accountable is by attending a bargaining session as an observer. It sends a powerful message when management sees members showing up, paying attention, and standing together.

President’s National Economic Bargaining Update: June 24, 2025

Yesterday we were back at national bargaining over economics. That session brought no new Tentative Agreements (TAs), and while we continue to press forward, real movement remains slow. But make no mistake, the pressure is mounting. Management is saying they want a Tentative Agreement by the end of August. And we’ve made it clear: there’s only one way that happens... movement, especially at the local tables.

I directly raised concerns about the lack of progress in local bargaining, particularly where management continues to stall

Over the past few weeks, OFNHP members have been showing up strong in their communities! A core pillar of our union’s mission is solidarity — not just in our workplaces, but by building vital coalitions right outside our front doors.

On June 14th, OFNHP members joined millions across the country in celebrating No Kings Day, an incredible demonstration of people from all walks of life fighting to protect our democracy. Members took to the streets in Portland, Bend, Eugene — even Chicago! — to voice their support for union rights, immigrant protections, federal park preservation, and defending

We just wrapped up our fourth day of impact bargaining over PeaceHealth’s mass layoffs — and thanks to YOUR incredible action, we made some major breakthroughs! Because of the pressure you built through protests, media attention, and relentless solidarity, we secured critical protections for our coworkers facing layoffs:

Severance wins: Employees who take severance and land a new job outside of PeaceHealth won’t lose their severance pay.

Seniority rights protected: Anyone who takes severance can apply to an OFNHP position at PeaceHealth Southwest and your seniority rights will be counted for

PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and PeaceHealth Sacred Heart have announced layoffs impacting approximately 1% of its workforce — a decision that healthcare workers warn could have devastating consequences for the future of patient care and the health of the entire region.

Among those laid off are critical members of the Oregon  Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals (OFNHP), AFT Local 5017, including the dismissal of all mobility aids, who help patients regain bodily autonomy and mobility to live independently, and social workers, whose services are essential for ensuring patients

What Happened at Our Second Week of National Bargaining?

  • Bold Opening Economic Proposal Delivered to KP
  • Work of the Subgroups: Partnership Effectiveness, Staffing and Patient Care, and AI & Technology
  • Four Tentative Agreements

This week, the Alliance met twice with Kaiser Permanente (June 2nd and June 4th) to present a bold economic proposal. Our message to Kaiser is clear: our members have fallen behind—and it’s time to catch up.

Skyrocketing inflation, a worsening staffing crisis, and historic contract settlements inside and outside of Kaiser Permanente (KP) have raised the stakes of this

In a huge victory for healthcare workers at PeaceHealth Southwest, Diet Representatives have officially won their union election, joining the Service and Maintenance unit of OFNHP, AFT Local 5017. This victory brings 34 essential workers into the union, giving them a collective voice to fight for fair wages, job protections, and respect on the job.

Diet Representatives play a critical, often overlooked, role in patient care — taking food orders, ensuring dietary needs are met, and delivering meals to patients throughout the hospital. They are a vital part of the healthcare team, and now they’ll

Members Rallying in Support of National Bargaining

OFNHP, as part of the 60,000-strong Alliance of Healthcare Unions (AHCU), wrapped up our national bargaining kickoff with Kaiser yesterday — and we’re more energized than ever. With four additional rounds of bargaining scheduled through August, including one week on our home turf in Portland, we’re on track to secure the strongest contract in our history.

This week, our primary objective was to clearly communicate our most important interests to the employer — a foundational step in interest-based bargaining. Doing so is essential to building a shared understanding of the many complex areas

This May 1st, join your community in standing up for an international day of solidarity!

International Workers’ Day, also known as May Day, is a historic celebration of the working class, unions, and the gains of the Labor movement we continue to experience today. Its roots go back over a hundred years, and stands in remembrance of the Haymarket affair: a powerful, yet tragic, demonstration in the fight for the eight-hour workday.

International Workers’ Day serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for human dignity and equity in the workplace. It commemorates the sacrifices and triumphs of
