You should hear this from me first. In moments, we will officially serve Kaiser Permanente with our 10-day notice of intent to strike. Unless Kaiser reaches a fair and just agreement with us, our strike will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, and end at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 19.
And we are not standing alone. Tens of thousands of our Alliance of Healthcare Union siblings across the country have also filed notices. Together, we are preparing to walk out in unity. This level of solidarity and strength cannot be ignored.
We remain at the bargaining tables, but the gap is wide. Kaiser’s wage proposals still trail behind what other employers in our community are paying. When wages don’t keep up, we can’t recruit or retain, and patients are left waiting for the care they need. This is a direct threat to safe staffing and patient care.
No healthcare worker wants to strike. Our commitment is to our patients. But Kaiser’s executives have left us with no alternative. By filing this notice, we are making clear that we are prepared to do whatever it takes to win a contract that prioritizes catching us up with real across-the-board raises, provides safer staffing, and protects the future of patient care.
Over the next 10 days, we move together! Our collective action is critical:
- We will continue pressing Kaiser at the bargaining tables.
- We are ramping up public outreach—advertising, community education, and coalition work.
- We are mobilizing supporters across our networks to show Kaiser that healthcare workers, patients, and our communities are united.
- We are amplifying our voices in the press and through letters to the editor, making sure the public knows exactly what is at stake.
Upcoming Informational Pickets—show up and be seen:
- Oct. 7, 11am–1pm: Westside Medical Center
- Oct. 8, 5pm–7pm: South Interstate
- Oct. 9, 5pm–7pm: N. Lancaster, Salem
For those unable to legally strike:
- Members in our Technical Bargaining Unit cannot walk out or picket, but your support is vital. We will provide meaningful, legal ways for you to stand with your coworkers.
- Registered Dental Hygienist Bargaining Unit has already made history with a Tentative Agreement that secures gains in their local contract! They are with us, shoulder to shoulder, as we push forward.
We are here because we have stood together. We are stronger today than we were yesterday, and we will only grow stronger as we stay united. Together, we will win a contract that honors healthcare workers and protects the patients who depend on us.
We will need as many of you as possible to sign up for daily picket-line shifts, which will be our frontline for communicating with patients and the public. Use the form below to sign up for picket shifts during the week of the strike.
