President’s National Economic Bargaining Update: June 24, 2025

Yesterday we were back at national bargaining over economics. That session brought no new Tentative Agreements (TAs), and while we continue to press forward, real movement remains slow. But make no mistake, the pressure is mounting. Management is saying they want a Tentative Agreement by the end of August. And we’ve made it clear: there’s only one way that happens... movement, especially at the local tables.

On June 14th, OFNHP members joined millions across the country in celebrating No Kings Day, an incredible demonstration of people from all walks of life fighting to protect our democracy. Members took to the streets in Portland, Bend, Eugene — even Chicago! — to voice their support for union rights, immigrant protections, federal park preservation, and defending

We just wrapped up our fourth day of impact bargaining over PeaceHealth’s mass layoffs — and thanks to YOUR incredible action, we made some major breakthroughs! Because of the pressure you built through protests, media attention, and relentless solidarity, we secured critical protections for our coworkers facing layoffs:

✅ Severance wins: Employees who take severance and land a new job outside of PeaceHealth won’t lose their severance pay.

✅ Seniority rights protected: Anyone who takes severance can apply to an OFNHP position at PeaceHealth Southwest and your seniority rights will be counted for

PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and PeaceHealth Sacred Heart have announced layoffs impacting approximately 1% of its workforce — a decision that healthcare workers warn could have devastating consequences for the future of patient care and the health of the entire region.

Among those laid off are critical members of the Oregon  Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals (OFNHP), AFT Local 5017, including the dismissal of all mobility aids, who help patients regain bodily autonomy and mobility to live independently, and social workers, whose services are essential for ensuring patients
