All workers deserve to do their jobs without fear of bullying or harassment on the job. Unfortunately, bullying on the job is more common than it should be, and it can be used to target the same workers who are advocating for improvements to their worksites. This is where a union comes in: the best way to fight against bad treatment from management is by working together as a union, building up our strength through solidarity and collective action.

OFNHP hosted a union table at Riverbend Sacred Heart on Friday, July 23rd. Members stopped in to get updated on bargaining. Most members talked about the difficulties in getting time off and the struggle to care for patients during with the short staffing.

We had lively discussions on wages and recognition for their years of experience for their commitment to Sacred Heart patients. Members signed up to join the Contract Action Team (CAT) to help out and plan activities around bargaining. We recently won a massive victory at PeaceHealth Southwest in a fight against their unfair treatment and attacks on worker power. We filed complaints with the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) over multiple issues that management was not dealing withCOVID-19 and other safety precautions correctly.

These include:

  1. The employer did not provide the correct PPE to workers who had to be close to any patient during aerosol generating procedures.  The employer sent workers into rooms with unsafe PPE.  This was their highest fine because it is a serious violation.
