We just wrapped up our fourth day of impact bargaining over PeaceHealth’s mass layoffs — and thanks to YOUR incredible action, we made some major breakthroughs! Because of the pressure you built through protests, media attention, and relentless solidarity, we secured critical protections for our coworkers facing layoffs:
✅ Severance wins: Employees who take severance and land a new job outside of PeaceHealth won’t lose their severance pay.
✅ Seniority rights protected: Anyone who takes severance can apply to an OFNHP position at PeaceHealth Southwest and your seniority rights will be counted for up to 5 months.
✅ Unemployment benefits secured: PeaceHealth agreed not to contest unemployment claims.
✅ Retraining rights won: Basic retraining opportunities are now available.
✅ Healthcare extended: Coverage continues through the end of severance.
✅ Big recall victory for Unit Coordinators: Those laid off can obtain a CNA license and be eligible for recall as a CNA.
✅ Pros and Care Management Assistant rights: For members still working toward a contract, we won displacement options and recall rights — something PeaceHealth tried to deny until we turned up the heat.
These victories happened because you spoke out. Management didn’t give these up willingly — it took our workplace actions, buttoning, press requests, and willingness to share how these changes affect us that helped moved the needle. We also want to thank our members, both those facing layoffs and those unit leaders who joined together to bargain this agreement. Your tireless work to move management was absolutely essential.
What’s next:
We’re turning our focus to the upcoming department restructures. This is a major victory, but the work doesn't stop: we have to keep up the pressure to secure the future of patient care and a just workplace for care providers. We’ll work directly with impacted members to protect jobs, stabilize schedules, and keep management accountable every step of the way.
