Participating in a strike is one of the most powerful actions you can take as a union member: Showing the employer how essential your work is by withholding your labor, fighting for a contract that protects your ability to provide high quality patient care and earn a dignified income while doing so.
We know a strike is a short term sacrifice for a long term reward -- but the cost of a smaller paycheck can still be understandably challenging, especially when the last four years of wage increases were minimal and the cost of every day living continues to rise. Please see some of the options below if you need additional support at this time, or how you can assist other striking workers if you're able.
OFNHP Food Bank and other Community Resources
At all 6 strike lines, we collected food items to distribute to any striking OFNHP member that may need it. Our members and community certainly showed up with a giving spirit, and we're grateful for those who participated. To learn more about accessing these resources, please send an email to jmiller@ofnhp.org or come by the Tigard union hall during open hours (M-Th 9A to 4P) and let a staff member know that you need access to "the pantry."
Please visit this link for a list of other community resources with a variety of geographical locations and times of availability to best fit individual needs.
If you're wanting to donate additional food or supplies to OFNHP striking workers, please email itsmyunion@ofnhp.org for further details. If you're interested in giving to other community resources, visit this link for a variety of organizations and methods to participate.
AFT Interest Free Loans for Strikers
AFT striking workers have access to an opportunity to apply for a no-interest loan through the AFL-CIO Credit Union for up to $600. For more details and how to apply, visit this page on our website.
OFNHP Hardship Fund
OFNHP has a hardship fund available to those workers affected by the strike for a grant up to $500. For eligibility criteria and details on how to apply, review the information linked in this file here. Please note that all applications are due by November 7th. If you have the means and want to contribute to this fund in support, you can donate here or continue to share with your communities.
We understand that there may be more questions about individual scenarios or needs as the campaign continues. Please reach out to itsmyunion@ofnhp.org with any matters not answered above.
