OFNHP Join the Community in the Streets This June

Over the past few weeks, OFNHP members have been showing up strong in their communities! A core pillar of our union’s mission is solidarity — not just in our workplaces, but by building vital coalitions right outside our front doors.

On June 14th, OFNHP members joined millions across the country in celebrating No Kings Day, an incredible demonstration of people from all walks of life fighting to protect our democracy. Members took to the streets in Portland, Bend, Eugene — even Chicago! — to voice their support for union rights, immigrant protections, federal park preservation, and defending Medicaid and Medicare. At our Portland table, we connected with hundreds of community members and union siblings ready to stand with us in our campaigns to protect patient care.

This past Saturday, members also took part in the Juneteenth Celebration in Portland, honoring Black liberation, resilience, and the ongoing fight for equality and justice. Despite the rain, we handed out hundreds of free books thanks to a grant from our national union at AFT and had a great time connecting with the community.

Next up on the community calendar is Pride! We’re participating in multiple events across the region in a variety of settings. Make sure to RSVP here to check out the full list and get signed up. And if you’re interested in joining our Social Justice Committee or Political Education & Action Committee to help build events like these, email us at itsmyunion@ofnhp.org to learn more and get connected!
