May Day Events 2025

This May 1st, join your community in standing up for an international day of solidarity!

International Workers’ Day, also known as May Day, is a historic celebration of the working class, unions, and the gains of the Labor movement we continue to experience today. Its roots go back over a hundred years, and stands in remembrance of the Haymarket affair: a powerful, yet tragic, demonstration in the fight for the eight-hour workday.

International Workers’ Day serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for human dignity and equity in the workplace. It commemorates the sacrifices and triumphs of workers who have fought for fair treatment and respect -- both those that have come before us, as well as those that will continue in this endeavor to come.

To learn more about the history of May Day, check out the first episode of OFNHP's new podcast, Strong Work, where our Communications Committee chair Nick Eng tells the history of how the radical workers' movement came to be.

This year, our collective action is more important than ever to carry on the struggle in demanding a country that respects all workers:

  • Healthcare over hedge funds
  • Housing over homelessness
  • Public schools over private profits
  • And protecting the rights and dignity of immigrants
