We Support the Striking Nabisco Workers

To Nabisco and Mondelez,

We are the Oregon Federation of Nursing and Health Professionals, a union that represents over 5000 nursing and health professionals in Oregon and Southwest Washington. We have been informed that Mondelez is demanding major contract concessions from workers. We are writing to express firm support and solidarity with the Bakery, Confectionary Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers International Union Local 364, currently on strike to defend their livelihoods and to protest unfair working conditions at Nabisco plants in Portland and across the nation.

We take satisfaction in supporting our working siblings that have joined a union to build a better company and better communities. We are aware that the demands of Mondelez come shortly after Mondelez closed two US bakeries where over 1,000 hardworking BCTGM members were employed. We too worked long hard hours through the pandemic.  We will not spend our hard-earned money on products whose manufacturers use their profits to fight against the interests of working class people.

At OFNHP, our members know what it means to face a strike. We know that it takes courage to refuse to go to work and forgo a paycheck until the employer agrees to your demands. Working people stand together. In the hospital, the grocery store, on the factory floor, and at the warehouse, we stand in solidarity in support of common cause.

Many of us will be joining the Nabisco boycott and doing what it takes to support these striking workers. We are more powerful together!
