A Message from Kaiser Lab Pros to Providence Labcorp Workers

Dear Labcorp Workers at Providence,

We, your fellow laboratory workers at Kaiser Permanente, are writing you in support of your effort to form a union with OFNHP. We are excited that you have chosen to join our union, OFNHP, which brings together healthcare workers from around the region. While healthcare runs on the results we produce, Laboratory workers can often feel overlooked in the day-to-day of healthcare operations. Lab workers everywhere deserve a voice in that work. Your choice to form a union is the first step to making your voices heard by your employer and your community.

With employees at Legacy Labcorp voting to unionize, union density in our industry is growing. The more laboratory workers that unionize, the greater our organizing power becomes. And the louder our collective voice. From our solidarity, we will be even more able to secure strong contracts and gain ground for all laboratory workers.

While we are preparing to begin bargaining our next contract this year, we want to share some of the key wins from our 2021 bargaining cycle:

●     Zero financial take-aways for current and new employees. Kaiser wanted to implement a two-tier system to enable them to pay new employees less money for the same job. We said ‘NO’ and held the line.

●     Preserved our Sabbatical Lottery for members with 15 or more years of service.

●     Increased our Float differential by 177%.

●     Implemented an additional longevity step with a 2.5% pay increase for 10 years of service.

●     Expanded schedule options for greater worker flexibility.

●     Reinforced emergency overtime language.

This was in addition to our already established benefits of:

●     Stellar PTO accrual rates, and separate banks for ill and vacation time.

●     Full hours paid for holidays off. All employees are paid in full for their regularly coded hours, whether they are part-time or full-time. Eight-hour shifts are paid out eight hours of holiday pay, even if you’re a part-time employee.

●     PTO is capped at 500 hours and can be rolled over to the next year without expiration.

●     Full medical benefits with $5 and $10 copays.

●     Pension

●     Performance Sharing Compensation Plan; we work on shared goals each calendar year and are given a lump sum amount for each target we hit. 2023’s pay out was $2,000 for our full time members.

Kaiser laboratory workers stand with you in your fight to join us as members of OFNHP. Our solidarity is your solidarity. As union members, we will work together to fight for improvements to our working conditions and compensations. Those gains will translate to better quality and service for our patients. Be strong, have each other’s backs. And fight for what you and your patients deserve.

In Solidarity and Strength,

OFNHP Lab Pros at Kaiser Permanente, Northwest Region
