On Wednesday, April 20^th, a group of OFNHP members delivered a petition with over 800 caregiver signatures to PeaceHealth Columbia Network CEO Sean Gregory to propose a $5,000 retention bonus for all OFNHP PeaceHealth Southwest and St. John members. It was through our members’ organizing and action that we brought forward the signatures of 85% of our membership to demand a solution to the staffing crisis. Over the past several weeks, OFNHP members have joined tens of thousands of Kaiser Permanente employees across the country raising their voices about the future of healthcare. After months of negotiations, and destructive proposals from Kaiser leadership, each of our local bargaining units unanimously recommended a strike authorization. Our membership then voted by 96% to strike, sending a message to management that we will do what it takes to protect both our patients and the frontline healthcare workers that make our healthcare system work.

There is nothing saintly about the tactics St. Charles Medical Center is using.

At a time when Oregon healthcare workers face unprecedented challenges in the workplace, St. Charles Medical Center management has decided to turn their back against its frontline employees.  Members of the Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals AFT Local 5017  are taking a stand to demand fair and equitable contract negotiations.

We have given legal notice that a strike will occur on March 4th if a settlement is not reached.

To safeguard the health and livelihoods of caregivers and other essential workers, we need reliable PPE supply chains. Healthcare workers can't wait any longer.

Fortunately, local paper mills and processing plants in the Northwest can be retooled to produce the supplies we need while providing good, family-wage jobs to union workers.
